We’re at that time of year in the NFL season where the improbable becomes possible, and frankly, any matchup of teams with a record somewhere between 4-7 and 7-4 is a tough call. During the course of a year, a few bounces here and a couple missed kicks there makes all the difference between priming yourself for the playoffs or phoning in December. The talent is often comparable, even when the records are not.
Last week in particular, and during the course of the NBA lockout, I was one to jump on the doom-and-gloom bandwagon, predicting cancellation of a full season for sure. The owners were asking the players to give up a LOT of money. But they pulled it out — the season will start on Christmas. What does it mean for Milwaukee? Who knows…
Meanwhile, back in October, we were all three quick to write off the Wisconsin Badgers, losers of back-to-back conference games after running their early record to 6-0. Well, look what we’ve got here? When we were begrudgingly hoping for the Outback Bowl on October 30, we never would have predicted a Wisconsin appearance in the inaugural Big Ten Conference Championship Game, but here we are.
