Different attitudes about privacy

Picking up on the topic of privacy from the last podcast, and on a recent trip overseas:

I think our friends in Europe have very different standards of privacy than Americans.  The most glaring example:  They think cameras in public places are an invasion of privacy, but have no problem with law enforcement photographing speeders and putting tickets in the mail.

So, how does this play out in their attitudes about the Internet?  I didn’t get a chance to ask, but this article offers some insight.
