Spidey 81, Episode 16: The Unfathomable Professor Gizmo

A one-off villain tricks Spidey into taking a dip in the ocean. Did you know that diving bell spiders were a thing? They are a real, actual thing, and somewhere round about 1981 a writer on a kids’ cartoon show heard about them for the first time, too. This ep signifies the spoils of that revelation. What is your favorite of Spidey’s rarely-used superpowers?

Check out the diving bell spider video.

  1. I also noticed the “date with girlfriend” comment on the train, and the next scene shows Betty at the party. Maybe Betty and Peter did go solo to the event? I did not notice any interaction between them. My guess is that the writers were not clever enough to hint of a possible breakup of Betty and Peter. Also made the same connection of the street parade with balloons to the first Batman movie. The Joker (Jack Nicholson) tossing money to the people.
